THIS VACANCY IS OPEN TO INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

About us:

Situated within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London, the Host Microbiome Interaction: Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics Research Group (HMI: CPT) serves as the heart of a multidisciplinary group, within and outside King’s Health Partners, and a clinical community dedicated to investigating the aetiopathology of Parkinson’s disease. The therapeutic potential to intervene against drivers and mediators is explored, with quantified outcomes on disease facets. Clinical research is centred at the Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill, in close association with the Department of Gastroenterology at King’s College Hospital.

About the role:

With collaborating laboratories, our main goal is to understand the impact of the gastrointestinal microbiome, with a trans-kingdom approach, and metabolome on disease facets.  We apply this knowledge to new strategies for halting progression and disease modification.

We seek a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to become part of our cooperative and energetic team, to continue development of a PCR screening method for a gastrointestinal pathogen and contribute to the trans-kingdom approach to the microbiome. The candidate would have the skills to interact with participants, obtaining questionnaire data and unobtrusive quantification relevant to disease facets, as well as highly developed laboratory and data handling and interpretation skills. Providing detailed record keeping for experiments and communicating regularly and effectively with co-workers is required, as is ability both to work independently, with precision and in compliance with high standards, and to actively supervise the less experienced. An ability to interact and learn is crucial.

Candidates should hold a PhD, or have successfully submitted, a PhD thesis, working in the fields of both clinical science and laboratory microbiology.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months.
