Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to join Dr Jenny Zhang's team at the Department of Chemistry on a project aimed at developing 3D electrode scaffolds for bioelectrochemistry or bioelectronics. The project involves the fabrication of high surface area electrodes for living cells for use in biohybrid systems for energy conversion, and the candidate will gain skillsets in biocatalysis and (photo)electrochemistry. 

The successful applicant will explore a range of engineering approaches including aerosol jet printing, extrusion printing, ink/hydrogel formation and materials synthesis for fabricating electrodes with diverse properties. They will be expected to establish methodolgies to increase throughput of electrode fabrication or electrochemical screening, use 3D drawing softwares such as AutoCAD, and be familiar with scanning electron microscopy and other common material visualisation/characterisation techniques. 

Applicants should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in materials chemistry, chemistry, chemical or material enginering or related disciplines. It is essential that the applicant can demonstrate expertise within the field of engineering or materials chemistry, with experience in electrochemistry and electrode array developement being desirable. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in material chemistry and its application to biotechnology, and enjoy working in a multi-discinplinary environment.
