Offer Description

We are recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the research group of Dr. Thomas Jones and Prof. Ping Lin as part of the EPSRC Pilot-Prosperity Partnership award between the University of Dundee and the industrial partner Rautomead Ltd, based in Dundee, UK.

The role is to assist metallurgical investigations being performed on the original processing methods of the industrial partner, which are applied in the continuous casting of a variety of alloys which include but are not limited to steel, copper, cobalt, aluminum. The project is concerned with overcoming the shortcomings of alloy processing such as by increasing the heat extraction rate to increase solidification and in turn to overcome defects such as porosity. The alloys under investigation have a range of industrial applications such as transport and energy.

The main goal of the position is to disseminate the findings generated from the multitude of alloy casting investigations performed and to address the overarching outcome of the partnership: to develop alloy feedstock by continuous casting in rod form for 3-D metal printing. For these reasons, a candidate with expertise in this technological area is encouraged.

In addition to the online form, applicants must include with their application:

  • Cover letter outlining the candidate's suitability for the role
  • CV with publication list
  • Names and contact details of at least three referees

We ask that you do not include in your CV or application documentation any of your sensitive personal data - racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, health, sexual orientation, or biometric data.
