 About the Role

This is a unique research role that will really make a difference through place-based intervention development to identify physical activity promotion approaches for Islamic religious settings that are culturally and religiously sensitive and that combine the scientific evidence of physical activity systems approaches.

The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Sport and Physical Activity at Edge Hill University's Ormskirk campus. In addition, a unique aspect of this role is that they will be integrated into the TaAF team and have access to a workspace at the TaAF offices in Burnley. 

This post is an opportunity to work with an experienced and dynamic research and practitioner team to co-develop and evaluate physical activity promotion approaches in East Lancashire.

 Main duties and responsibilities include:

  • complete high-quality research in physical activity promotion in Islamic religious settings, leading on project management, research design, participant recruitment, data collection and analysis (mixed methods but primarily qualitative), and dissemination elements of the project, under the direction of the PI. 
  • publish research outputs in leading peer-reviewed journals
  • effectively disseminate research findings at internal and external practitioner, stakeholder, and research meetings and conferences, making research accessible to lay and expert audiences

 About You

As Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Physical Activity and Wellbeing promotion in Islamic religious settings: Active Madrassah, you will have:

  • mixed-methods research skills and experience, with expertise in qualitative methodologies
  • knowledge and understanding of physical activity, health, and wellbeing intervention development 
  • experience of working with stakeholders in under-represented communities to develop intervention programmes
  • strong communication skills and a friendly, open personality
