Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) is located on a beautifully green and pleasant campus just a few minutes’ walk from Lincoln Cathedral, Castle, and the old Roman city. Our story began in the 1860s as an Anglican teacher training college for women, which makes us one of the oldest Higher Education Institutions in the UK. Since then, we've grown, adapted, and modernised to become the thriving university we are today. We're still experts in teaching and education, but we've now got a wider portfolio of exciting degree courses than ever before. We currently offer causes in a wide range of subjects, from Undergraduate Degree level to PhD, and much more in between.

BGU have an opportunity for four Building Attendants (nights) to join our Facilities Management Team. This is an active and varied role as part of a larger team across the estate.

The post holders will provide support for the out of hours running of the University buildings including health and safety and proactively control and maintain student conduct in or around student accommodation. Providing front-line customer service, but on occasions will require adopting an assertive approach whilst acting in a professional and courteous manner.

Flexibility will be required during the absence of the other Building Attendants and University events to ensure a seamless service.

Previous experience of working in a facilities role is desirable but not essential; if you have the relevant skills to be successful, we will train you on the rest. You will be encouraged to be creative, flexible and resourceful in your approach to the tasks at hand, while delivering a great customer service to the wide range of people you will meet.

Working Arrangements

The working arrangements consist of four 12-hour night shifts (19:00 to 07:00), followed by four rest days (4 nights on, 4 nights off).

The shift pattern gives an average working week of 42 hours:

  • 365 days divided by 8 days = 45.625 shifts of 48 hours = 2,190 hours per year.
  • 2,190 hours divided by 52 weeks = average 42 hours per week

BGU offers a generous employee benefits package including:

  • 25 days holiday for Grades 1-6
  • 35 days holiday for Grades 7+
  • Plus 3 additional discretionary days annual leave over the Christmas period
  • Various pension scheme options including a Teachers Pension scheme offering up to 23.68% Employer Contribution, and BG Flex (a private pension scheme managed by Aviva) offering a 10% employer contribution and the employee contributions are voluntary and flexible.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Electric Car Salary Sacrifice Scheme
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme including face to face counselling sessions
  • Agile Working Scheme to support employees work-life balance
