Has your proven experience of HR, process improvement/management, system management and project management given you an expert understanding of transactional HR processes related to HR and payroll systems? Are you looking for a fresh challenge in an environment that’s open, vibrant and welcomes new ideas? Then join the University of East London’s People & Culture Directorate as a People Systems Specialist (Analyst).

It’s a particularly exciting time here at the University as, under our 10-year strategy, Vision 2028, there are big changes happening. Committed to driving diversity in the 5.0 talent pipeline, we work in partnership to promote talent wherever it is found and strive to create a balanced, inclusive and green future and provide our students with the skills necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our People & Culture (P&C) directorate consists of five distinct core functions - Talent Acquisition, Employee Experience & Development, Operations, Systems & Service, Employee Relations & Policy and Health and Safety & Wellbeing. Collectively, they’re responsible, in partnership with stakeholders across the organisation, for delivering the University’s people strategy. The aim is to create an environment where people are attracted to work at the University and helped to develop and grow and deliver their best work in a high-performing and supportive environment.

As a People Systems Specialist (Analyst) you’ll be a key contributor to the design, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of system and process solutions that comply with UK legislation, meet business requirements and align to an overarching Digital First strategy. Day-to-day, you’ll lead on ensuring our P&C, Learning and Engagement systems work effectively and collaborate with key teams like Payroll, IT and external suppliers to maintain and improve system functionality for our people. We’ll also rely on you to act as a subject matter expert for people systems, including configuration, APIs and data mapping, workflows, access management, bug fixes and query resolution. Providing advice and guidance on the best practice use of the HR systems and identifying solutions to any problem that arise will be an important aspect of the role too. And, when it comes to overseeing data entry, cleansing, import and export using system tools and data reconciliation to ensure all data held is accurate and up-to-date, again, we’ll count on you.

To succeed, you’ll need a proven relevant background, strong analytical and business process knowledge and excellent attention to detail. You’ll also need a demonstrable ability to work cross functionally/divisionally with other staff and deliver on continuous improvement projects within an agreed timeframe and be used to working without close supervision. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of products is essential too, while a working knowledge of Power BI or other data visualisation tools would be useful. If you have automation and system configuration system integration (APIs) experience and/or familiarity with of system implementations and data migration projects, even better, although these aren’t must haves.

Qualifications relating to HR, training, development, reward, or engagement would be a plus too, as would CIPD accreditation. However, we’re more excited about proven experience and impact in previous roles than a specific certification.
