The Nursery Services Team support children to become capable, confident and independent individuals. They provide a safe, developmentally inclusive environment for babies (0-2 years), toddlers (2-3 years) and preschool age children (3-5 years).

We are currently recruiting to the post of Nursery Nurse - £12.16 per hour

Campus based posts available:

Post 1 - over 3 days, Monday - Wednesday -  22.5 hours - 7.5 hours per day

Post 2 - over 2 days, Thursday & Friday - 15 hours -  7.5 hours per day

For any candidate that may be interested in full time work, we would consider combining these hours (full-time starting salary: £21,828 per annum, plus 2.5 hours per week paid at time and a half, pro rata for part time staff, time and half)

Requirements
This individual will have passion and enthusiasm for safeguarding children and delivering high standards of care:

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • At least 1 year’s Childcare experience
  • A great understanding of child development and Curriculum for Wales
  • A passion and enthusiasm for childcare
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills, written and verbal
  • Good timekeeping, organisation and reliability.

Job Description

Main Duties

  • To supervise and care for children.
  • To participate in a key worker scheme.
  • To provide effective liaison with parents.
  • To set up nursery equipment, sterilise baby equipment and carry out general cleaning duties to maintain appropriate levels of hygiene.
  • To carry out laundry duties. 
  • To keep records, including development books.
  • To report any matters regarding the smooth running of the nursery to the Day Care Management.
  • To administer first aid as required.
  • To attend and actively participate in all basic training as identified in the Training Matrix.
  • To identify your personal training needs in conjunction with your manager, ensuring that learning is transferred to the workplace.
  • To actively participate in the Quality and Customer Care initiatives.
  • To abide by university policies on Health & Safety.
  • To ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of equality and diversity, data protection, copyright and licensing, security, financial and other University policies, procedures and codes as appropriate.
  • You may be asked to perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role.
  • The role will require a flexible approach to working hours and is 5 days out of 7 (pro rata for part time staff).


    Person Specification

    ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • BTEC, NNEB, CACHE Diploma in Child Care or NVQ Level 3 in Child Care or equivalent.
  • Experience in the field of childcare.
  • Proven ability to work unsupervised demonstrating initiative.
  • Experience of communicating information both orally and in writing, to a wide range of people whilst demonstrating attention to detail and high levels of interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of working in a customer focussed environment with an ability to respond to customer needs, including children and parents, in a polite and courteous manner adapting to their requirements accordingly.
  • Experience of working well as an effective team member.
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and procedures demonstrating good organisational skills.
  • Paediatric First Aid Certificate or the willingness to attain one when appointed.
  • Evidence of I.T. skills including the use of Internet, Email and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • DESIRABLE CRITERIA
  • Ideally the successful candidate should be able to communicate in Welsh or have a willingness to learn.
  • The desirable section contains a list of skills, qualifications and experience that it would be beneficial for the jobholder to have.

    CAMPUS SERVICES INFORMATION

    Campus Services provides a range of professional support services to students, staff and visitors at Cardiff University.
    Residences manages accommodation places for approximately 5,500 students, both catered and self-catered.

    In terms of catering, there are cafés and restaurants conveniently located across university campuses, in addition to a delivered hospitality service.
    Cardiff University Sport exists to provide students and staff with a balanced, high quality and integrated sport service which meets the needs of a broad range of users.

    The Nursery offers facilities for children aged between 10 weeks and 5 years and is divided into sections appropriate to the ages and development of the children.
    Both residential and catering facilities are utilised for conferences and functions during the University’s vacation periods.  A purpose built and designed conference centre and conference facility is also available throughout the year.
    The Campus Services operation is supported by its own central administration functions covering the allocation of residences, human resource and quality, purchasing, facilities, finance, and general administration.
