Night Porter

About the role

To actively engage with our clients, exceeding their expectations and ensuring all aspects of the customer journey are effectively delivered. When deputising for the Night Manager you will be the main point of contact for all clients staying overnight and team members working on shift.

Full time hours of work: 45 hours per week, 10 days over 14, including weekends as required; predominately 22:00-07:00
Salary: £23,500 – £26,500 per annum.


Key responsibilities

Working within the Conference and Technical Services team, you will carry out a wide variety of activities, with your key responsibilities to include:

  • To ensure that the security of the Main building and Study Centre is maintained overnight, conducting regular fire, health and safety checks as part of this cover.
  • Respond to fire alarm activations and evacuations as the standard operation procedure states, in a calm and professional manner.
  • Administer emergency first aid if required.
  • When deputising for the Night Manager, deal with any late guest arriving to check in. Oversee the management of the night cleaner team.
  • Report and log any sickness/absence from staff calling in during the night.
  • To ensure effective communication with all clients throughout your shift, available to attend to customers’ needs and ensure the highest standards of customer care is delivered.
  • To set up, service conference room networking area as requested, to the agreed standards of the Møller Institute.
  • Looking ahead at business level to aid planning of meeting room set ups.
  • To have a working knowledge of all equipment used and to ensure that all AV/IT equipment is clean and stored appropriately.
  • Through staff training ensure that the relevant cleaning materials are being used in a safe manner.
  • To ensure that all furniture is cleaned and stored safely.
  • Complete daily lock down procedure reports along with completed nightly handover sheets.
  • Communicate verbally and via e-mail to all department managers ensuring a smooth flow of communication throughout the Institute.
  • To report any maintenance issues or faults immediately using the maintenance app.
  • Ensure that lost property found whilst on shift is recorded correctly and secured and hand to the morning reception team.
  • To ensure that you abide by our environmental, General Data Protection and Anti-Bribery and Corruption policies.

Essential skills and experience
  • A positive ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Flexibility and available to work a rota with varying shifts
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure
  • Willingness to learn

Desirable skills and experience
  • Previous experience of night shifts, ideally in a similar environment
  • First Aid Certificate holder (training can be provided if not)
  • Good knowledge of IT & telecommunication systems
