Then this is an opportunity to join the Division of Natural Sciences in the role of Associate Technician (Biology). Working as part of the technical support team, maintaining the daily activities within the washroom for the Biosciences teaching and research laboratories within the Division of Natural Sciences.

You will be part of a supportive team, working closely under the direction of your line manager.  

As Associate Technician (Biology) you will:

  • Carry out routine day to day tasks to established guidelines, to achieve team objectives.
  • Under supervision provide basic technical support to divisional customers. Refer unusual or non-routine questions to more senior staff.
  • Operate equipment such as industrial sized washing machines and autoclaves.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment while washing the school’s scientific glassware, the sterilization of research work along with the correct disposal of waste produced within the school of Biosciences.
  • The collection and transport of goods to and from the Supplies department.
  • Assist with purchasing including ordering and distributing goods.
  • Manage the laundering of the school’s dirty lab coats via an external contractor.
  • If time permits, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience and skills working alongside the senior technical staff, helping to prepare practical content for our student classes. This could involve tube labelling, making solutions, pouring agar plates as well as setting up and clearing the teaching laboratories.

To be successful in this role you will have/be:

  • Have experience of working in a similar support role.
  • Standard GCSE's or NVQ Level 1 or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Having good interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise confidentiality and politely with Staff and students is essential.
  • The successful candidate must be punctual, organised with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
  • The role requires the successful candidate to be happy and confident working on their own as well as within a small close knit team.
  • Have a knowledge of basic safety regulations & procedures.
