Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced marketing professional specialising in planning, organising, and executing events. The Marketing Manager is a crucial role within the Brand & Marketing Department, jointly responsible for the development of the events channel plan for student recruitment activity and the delivery of high-converting activity within the prospective student journey. The events delivered support departmental objectives to increase the volume of applications from high-achieving students across King’s portfolio of courses, and convince offer holders to accept their offer and enrol.

Working within the Marketing Communications Team, you will collaborate with stakeholders across the wider King’s community and beyond to lead on the delivery of impactful and engaging events for our key audiences, from initiation to completion and post-event evaluation. Our event portfolio includes open days, open evenings, offer holder events, campus tours, information sessions, third-party events and conferences, delivered via various formats including in person, online and hybrid experiences.

You will also be responsible for developing an expert understanding of the relevant operational and channel-specific nuances, and key messages that will inform student recruitment activities, and providing marketing expertise on the market, the competition, and the target audiences in this channel.

We are looking for a creative and friendly self-starter who is highly organised, innovative and able to work on their own initiative. Alongside event management and line management experience, you will have a keen eye for detail and strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people.

Due to the nature of this role, successful candidates will need to be able to work outside of 9-5 office hours, including attendance at evening and weekend events (online and face-to-face).

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.


Key responsibilities
  • Line management of Marketing Officers and/or Marketing Coordinators and overseeing their development and annual PDRs.
  • Identify marketing activities (events) and content opportunities to support student recruitment campaigns to meet departmental objectives.
  • Support the development of and lead on delivery and evaluation of the implementation of the specific events marketing plan.
  • Project management of large scale face-to-face and online event series from planning to execution and evaluation.
  • Management of all event streams of the student ambassador scheme including campus tour guides, open day ambassadors and virtual event assistants.
  • Develop and manage key relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and to scope.
  • Management of spend for events activity and ensuring projects are delivered within budget.
  • Measurement tracking and analysis of events activity to ensure objectives and targets are met and projects are delivered on time.
  • Delivery of events channel reports and analysis for activity performance.
  • Develop and maintain competitor research, providing regular expertise to update or enhance our events marketing activities.
  • Providing support to or deputising for the Head of Marketing Communications as applicable.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable experience of planning, organising and managing large-scale events (minimum 3-4 years) including both face-to-face and online events.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to developing an events portfolio including problem-solving and generating new ideas and initiatives.
  • Experience of supervising and line managing staff.
  • Experience of building and maintaining professional relationships to negotiate with and influence both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented approach with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proven ability to plan, prioritise and manage a demanding and varied workload with competing priorities.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to inform future events activity.
  • Ability to exercise initiative when handling problems or queries under pressure.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and motivate other staff.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent or professional marketing/events management qualification.
  • Proficiency with video and photo editing tools and digital media formats (ideally Adobe Creative Cloud suite).
  • Experience of using project management tools (such as ClickUp, Asana or similar).
  • King’s College London currently operates a hybrid working model with a minimum of 5 days a month in the office (at least 1-2 days a week) alongside working from home however this can vary on any given week and contractually you need to be able to work 5 days a week in the office/on campus if required.

    The selection process for this role will involve a remote panel interview on Teams consisting of a pre-prepared presentation followed by competency-based questions. A follow up face-to-face informal meeting with the Head of Marketing Communications and other members of the team may also be required prior to appointment. Interviews will take place in April. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
