Marketing and Communications Lead

The Marketing & Communications Lead will be a strategic lead for the development and implementation of a strong communications approach for a complex project dealing with topical and sometimes contentious issues. In leading this communications function the post will: 

  • Support the Consortium Manager in building the Consortium’s position and raising the profile of our research, shaping and implementing research messaging and developing our strategic advocacy plans. 
  • Proactively engage with local and national media to promote outputs from the project and engage the public in debate about key issues emerging from the research, promoting the project’s research and profile through media liaison, public relations, stakeholder engagement and content marketing. 
  • Work closely with communications teams both internal to the University and external with other Universities, partner organisations and local governments, to promote the project team’s work, especially its research and content dissemination.
  • Support local communications professionals to manage media engagement during the implementation phase of the project. 

POPULATION HEALTH IMPROVEMENT UK: COMMERCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH & EQUITY RESEARCH TEAM is an ambitious new multi-partner, multi-disciplinary research Consortium. This grant is funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and is one of the four clusters within the Population Health Improvement Network. The Commercial Determinants of Health Consortium brings together local governments, researchers, and civil society groups to work with local populations to improve the health, well being and equity of communities across England. 

We're seeking a creative and strategic team worker who will use their excellent verbal and written communication skills to support this exciting research project. 

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term basis with expected end date of 31/03/2028.


You will be:
  • Experienced in working in a complex organisation with multiple stakeholders
  • Highly experienced in dealing with the media
  • Experienced at designing long-term strategies to maximise engagement
