Overview

About the role

The School of Engineering & Materials Science (SEMS) is home to The Centre for Advanced Robotics @ Queen Mary (ARQ). ARQ staff apply their robotics expertise to a wide range of research problems and applications, including soft robotics, cognitive robotics, haptics and tactile sensing, grasping and manipulation, robot learning, digital twins, human-robot interaction and drones, with strong potential to impact our core research themes of ‘Green Energy’, ‘Future Transport’ and ‘Bioengineering & Biomaterials’. Staff also support our delivery of engineering and robotics undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study.

We are looking for world-leading researchers in any robotic area, including the design of sensors, actuators and robotic structures, robot autonomy, robot perception and control, robot learning, artificial intelligence engineering and human-robot interaction, able to complement and expand our robotics research and teaching and strengthen the integration of robotics activity across SEMS. In REF2022, SEMS was ranked 7th overall and 2nd for the quality of our research outputs.

Applicants should have a proven track record of research achievement demonstrated through refereed journal publications, and at a minimum outstanding potential for research income generation, with a proven track record expected for a role at senior lecturer level.

A commitment to high-quality student education is also essential, to develop and support our taught programmes, particularly in the robotics area.
