The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to recruit a talented Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Retinal Disease.

The appointed candidate will expand the research excellence and strengthen the academic base within the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine, employing multidisciplinary and innovative approaches to advance our understanding in the theme of vision science and vascular biology to include retinal disease (e.g. diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration), immunologic/inflammatory disorders of the eye, disorders of the eye with links to other chronic conditions such as ageing/dementia/neurological disorders. They will also teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and contribute to School and Institute administration / outreach activity.

For Senior Lecturer, the successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

  • Primary Degree.
  • PhD in a relevant subject area.
  • Significant research experience at postdoctoral level in a field relevant to vision science and vascular biology.
  • Research profile which complements the Vision Science and vascular biology theme of the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine.
  • Record of high quality publications at an international level of excellence in internationally recognised journals.
  • Record of successfully obtaining significant research funding or other resources to underpin research, as appropriate to the discipline, through competitive national or international peer-reviewed processes as Principal Investigator.
  • Experience of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques.
  • Experience of presentations at national and international meetings and conferences.
  • Successful PhD supervision as Primary Supervisor.
  • Substantial relevant teaching experience at University Level with evidence of appropriate leadership in education.
  • Experience of delivering high quality teaching as evidenced by positive feedback received from for example: students, colleagues and external examiners.
  • Contribution to a wide range of administrative tasks.
  • Evidence of academic leadership including managing professional teams, leading initiatives, chairing/participation in committees, contributing to strategy, participating and managing relevant aspects.
