Manchester Fashion Institute (MFI) has an established reputation within the global Higher Education sector. We are uniquely positioned as one of the largest specialist fashion education providers in the UK, with depth and breadth of expertise in our field. Our research and teaching cross science and engineering, the arts, health, sociology, and sport. We foster an environment where diversity and equality flourish, where innovation is powered by a multitude of perspectives and cultures.
As part of the University's significant investment in the delivery of the Manchester Fashion Institute's new and ambitious strategic vision, we are looking for a practice-based educator and researcher to join our dynamic team. We have an excellent track record in industry collaboration, innovative teaching and learning, and academic research. In the last REF, our research contributed to Manchester Metropolitan University being ranked 2nd in the UK for overall research power for Art and Design (UoA 31).
About the role:
We are looking for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Digital Fashion Practice to contribute to our vibrant research community. You will have an emerging or established (L/SL) research specialism, in fashion technologies or digital technologies for fashion, and practice research outputs in accordance with your career stage.
You will have knowledge and practical experience of current and future digital or technological fashion methods and solutions and would be expected to deliver high quality theoretical and practical teaching sessions across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Experience does not have to be specifically from a fashion background, although we would seek assurance through the application process that your practice and research applies within a fashion context.
About you:
The successful applicant will have:
- Experience of practice-based teaching and research in the field of digital fashion and/or fashion technologies.
- A PhD in a relevant discipline (or near completion).
- A PGCE, Certificate of Education, PGCLTHE or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (or commitment to obtain within three years of appointment).
- Membership of relevant professional bodies, appropriate to the discipline, or other markers of professional standing.
- A plan for delivering research outputs of sufficient quality to meet the REF criteria. Including published/exhibited practice-based research, articles in peer reviewed journals or monographs.
In some circumstances, we will consider applicants who do yet not have these qualifications/outputs but are committed to obtaining them and have equivalent significant attainment in their professional field.
To apply, please submit your CV and Covering Letter via our application portal. For informal enquiries, please contact Jo Jenkinson - [email protected] (Deputy Head of Fashion Business)
Interviews will likely take place Tuesday 7th May.
Manchester Met University is committed to creating an intentionally inclusive culture of belonging that promotes equity and celebrates diversity. We understand the importance of having a diverse workforce and the benefits it can bring to ensuring diversity of thought and innovation in everything we do. We, therefore, encourage applications from our local and international communities, in particular people from ethnic minority groups, disabled people and people who identify as LGBTQIA+.
