Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Cyber security

The School of Computer Science at the University of Bristol is undergoing significant growth, driven by recent successes in research and innovation. We are expanding our faculty to further strengthen our expertise in key areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Cryptography, and more. As part of this expansion, we are seeking an outstanding candidate to fill a new faculty position at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Associate Professor level in Cyber Security.

The successful candidate will join the Bristol Cyber Security Group, a vibrant community of >70 scholars and researchers, playing a pivotal role in delivering high-quality teaching and conducting internationally leading cutting-edge research in the broad area of cyber security. We specifically prefer candidates with research profiles focusing on systems security or software security. Interest in developing innovative ways of integrating teaching, research and technology development will be especially welcomed. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our ongoing success and make a significant impact in the field of cybersecurity.

  • Design and deliver excellent teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, demonstrating commitment to maximising opportunities for student learning and engagement.
  • Develop high-quality and innovative teaching materials, conduct lectures, supervise projects, and provide personal tutoring.
  • Engage in internationally leading research complementing the School's current activities, with a focus on producing high-quality publications in top venues.
  • Actively seek funding opportunities from government and/or industrial sources to support research endeavours.
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the School and Faculty by undertaking academic leadership roles as specified by the Head of School.
  • Responsibilities may also include program management, admissions, industry collaboration, examination supervision, and outreach activities.

You have:

  • A good honours degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. 
  • A PhD in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a closely related field, or extensive relevant industrial/commercial experience.
  • Experience in teaching at university level, with a commitment to delivering engaging and effective instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct internationally leading research and publish in top-tier academic journals.
  • Proven track record or potential to secure research funding from government and/or industrial sources.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Work pattern: Full time

Grade: J/K/L/Pathway 1 depending on experience 

Salary:  £41,732 - £46,974 (Grade J) or £48,350 - £54,395 (Grade K) or £57,696 - £64,914 (Grade L) per annum
