The Law staff currently deliver a highly successful LLB (Hons) programme with various in routes that has consistently high NSS ratings.

As such, we are currently recruiting a Lecturer in Scots Law to join our strong team of committed staff and contribute to the delivery of the Scots Private Law curriculum and in particular two modules that are core to the LLB - Property Law and Succession.

The LLB is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland and the post will contribute to further developing our excellent working relationships with the local and national legal services market.

This position is also open to ambitious Early Career Academics with whom we will generate development plans aligned to our career pathways on our Early Career Academic Development Programme

The Role:

As Lecturer in Scots Law, you will have the opportunity to play a key role in taking forward the work of the Law subject group. You will be in an excellent position to use your skills and experience to make valuable contributions to the group, together with its Head and other staff members, in achieving and driving forward its strategic objectives.

The post will allow you to use your proven professional or research activity track record, to compliment and expand our existing strengths and make a significant contribution to knowledge exchange income generation.

Furthermore, you will be in an excellent position to use your experience to contribute to learning and teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate level and doctoral supervisions, delivering undergraduate modules in Scots Private Law, Property Law & Succession and such other modules as requested by the Head of Subject on the LLB programme.

We anticipate that this will further add to your experience and skill set and with this in mind, you will be invited to develop a new module based on your specialism, subject to discussion with the Head of Subject.    

It is of particular interest to us to augment our professional activity and profile broadly in the area of Scots Private Law including Charity Law, to support and develop the work of the Law Subject Group.  If you have knowledge or research background in this area, then we would be keen to speak with you.

What we will need from you:

In addition to the role profile, (click here to view ) the following criteria are essential:

  • A doctoral level qualification in Law
  • Evidence of a professional (legal) or academic profile
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience to support and develop high quality teaching/learning and research projects
  • Evidence of generating external funding or successful research collaboration
  • Proven track record in leading and managing within a team environment

Benefits we offer:

Salary: £44,263 - £56,021 p/a (depending on experience) + Pension (Employer contribution of 23% - Scottish Teachers Superannuation Scheme)

46 days (36 days flexible + 10 fixed) paid annual leave per annum
