Permanent, full time post available from 1st September 2024 to join a thriving and dynamic law programme, based at our Penryn campus.

Our offering to students in Cornwall is unique; our law degrees form part of a portfolio of programmes run in collaboration with our Business School, such as LLB Law with Business and BBL Bachelor of Business with Laws. We have plans to expand delivery to new inter-disciplinary programmes. Our pedagogical approach is different from many traditional law schools, with a much stronger focus on experiential learning. This includes significant amounts of small group task-based working and research projects as part of the curriculum. 

The central focus of research amongst the Law team is within the Exeter Centre for Environmental Law (based at the Penryn campus in Cornwall) with themes including environmental compliance local and national regimes, climate change law, sustainable businesses accreditation, circular economy and right to repair, adaptive legal mechanisms for environmental management, regulation of Green fintech and nature markets, smart and sustainable cities law and regulation.  The University Strategy 2030 also focuses on inter-disciplinary research on the environment, artificial intelligence and ethics and the creative industries.

The role

We are seeking applications from candidates with an academic or professional background:

  • with the ability to teach on a range of core modules including Trusts, Land, Contract, Public Law and Tort. Expertise and enthusiasm to teach on other optional modules, such as Corporate Law, Environmental Law or Law & Technology would also be welcomed
  • to contribute to the research activity of the Law team and Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in Cornwall

The post would suit candidates with an academic or professional background developing their research profile and research students at or near to the completion of their PhD.

About you

You will:

  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion) or with established experience in legal academia or legal practice demonstrating the core knowledge of law in order to teach and support learning on law module and to develop teaching programmes.
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
  • Have a track record of or evidence of potential for publications that are recognised as internationally excellent
  • Demonstrate the potential to attract funding for research
  • Demonstrate interest in and potential for developing strong connections with business and community partners
  • Have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review or indicators of excellent teaching potential
  • Be expected to work towards Fellowship of the HEA and to attend formal CPD relating to this
