King’s India Institute invites applications for the post of Lecturer in India and Global Affairs (maternity cover). The successful candidate will have a primary research agenda that is focused on contemporary India, as well as expertise in theory and concepts relevant to the wider area of Global Affairs. They will have excellent teaching experience and an outstanding track record of research experience/publications in their field, appropriate to career stage. 

The Lecturer will contribute to teaching and programme leadership on the MSc Global Affairs, housed within the King’s Global Institutes. The MSc Global Affairs examines the politics, society, economics and history of the world’s non-western regions and rising powers, and their role within a changing world order. The Lecturer’s core responsibilities will include teaching an introductory Masters-level module on Contemporary India, contributions to teaching the core module on the MSc Global Affairs (Introduction to Global Affairs), and the supervision of dissertation and group project work.

This post will be offered on a fixed term contract for 1 year

Key responsibilities

  • To plan, organise and deliver teaching activities in accordance with established practice
  • To participate fully in assessment and examination processes as appropriate using a variety of methods and techniques and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning
  • To support programme leadership and administration of the MSc Global Affairs
  • To undertake the supervision of postgraduate students at Masters level
  • To serve as a personal tutor and assist with difficulties encountered by students
  • To undertake and publish high-quality research, contributing to the research environment of the King’s India Institute and Global Institutes
  • To engage in professional development as appropriate to update skills, and to support teaching excellence
  • To accept academic responsibility within the India Institute, involving efficient delivery of administrative responsibilities as allocated by the Institute Director
  • To participate in public and civic engagement via outreach and events
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Institute Director
