The Department of Chemistry at Lancaster University seeks an exceptional individual for a full-time lectureship appointment, to carry out internationally renowned research in the area of battery materials, as well as undertaking teaching and administrative responsibilities.

You will have a track record of conducting internationally-leading research in battery materials, with a portfolio of high-quality research publications, and demonstrate excellent teaching abilities, including the potential to supervise postgraduate students. You should also demonstrate the potential to attract external grant income to support your research from a range of sources, and are expected to be able to participate in collaborative grant applications with others from the Department and elsewhere at Lancaster University. The appointment will be made to complement our existing research strengths.

You will also have a strong and active interest in teaching chemistry as part of a modern degree, plus an ability and willingness to engage with relevant external stakeholders of value to Lancaster University.

 The Department of Chemistry was re-opened in 2012 and has undergone rapid expansion and development. The Department consists of a core complement of more than 20 members of academic staff and a thriving community of post-doctoral researchers, PGR and UG students. It ranks highly in the UK (9th in the Guardian University Guide 2024) with state-of-the-art labs housed in a completely refurbished building. Recent ongoing investment works include the installation of an additional 30 fumehoods to support the project needs of our expanding undergraduate cohort.

 Instrumental research facilities (supported by a team of departmental experimental officers) available in the Department include: NMR (multi-nuclear solution & solid state), EPR, mass spectrometry, X-ray diffractometers, fluorescence & Raman spectrometers, AFM and SEM. There is also access to “Bat Lab”, an analytical facility for the cycling of coin and pouch cells, with provision for climate control.

 Lancaster University is highly ranked – 11th in the UK according to the Guardian University Guide 2024. It was awarded the Times International University of the Year in 2020 and University of the Year in 2018, and holds a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold rating. The University’s campus is located in 560 acres of beautiful parkland on the edge of the small but vibrant city of Lancaster.
