Offer Description
The Department of Physics is seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Biophysics to undertake internationally leading research in Theoretical Biological Physics within the Biological Physics and Soft Matter group (BPSM) and take a lead role in the delivery of high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The appointee will have research interests in theoretical biophysics with the aim of consolidating and diversifying existing research within the Department, which currently includes experimental work in light microscopy (including super-resolution and fluorescence imaging) and mechanobiology (including single molecule, single cell and single organoid mechanics and Atomic Force Microscopy imaging, combined with coarse-grained and all-atom simulations and theoretical aspects of phase separation. To this end, the areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, mechanobiology, morphogenesis, molecular motors, natural and naturally-inspired molecular machines, statistical mechanics and bio-inspired active matter.
This is an exciting time to join us in a unique opportunity to shape the future of our Department of Physics at one of the most prestigious Universities in the UK. Our vision is to firmly establish a contemporary department, where key part of King’s Physics ethos is equality, with a dynamic and fulfilling academic culture for all, and an emphasis on tackling the under-representation of women in science and active involvement in the University’s commitment to the Race Equality Charter. We currently hold a silver Athena Swan award and Juno Champion status from the Institute of Physics (IOP).
Celebrating diversity and supporting staff is important to us and we offer a range of provisions including flexible working, caring support (including a Parenting and Carers Fund and the Carer’s Career Development Fund), training, and a variety of diversity and inclusion networks. Staff can apply for flexible working to help them balance the demands of their professional and personal commitments and we offer comprehensive leave policies for parental, adoption, surrogacy, dependant, and shared leave.
The Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) comprises Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics – all departments are highly rated in research activities and have a wide-ranging portfolio of education programmes. The university is making investment in NMES and both student and staff numbers are growing. Our staff come from over 45 countries and 56% of our students are from outside the UK. KCL staff are principally located on the Strand Campus in the heart of central London, further details available at https://www.kcl.ac.uk/nms and https://www.kcl.ac.uk/physics
