Open-ended:

We are looking for a Lecturer with experience in the history of medicine and related areas of history of science and social studies of biomedicine to join the Science, Technology and Innovation Studies Subject Area.

The opportunity:

You will demonstrate experience, achievement and outstanding potential reflected in a growing personal teaching and supervisory portfolio with a prominent focus on history of medicine in the modern era, 19th  to 20th  centuries, and a commitment to the provision of academic student support.  You will present a research profile, in both experience to date and in future potential, at the forefront of the area of activity. 

This post is open ended, available from August 2024.

This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. 

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD in Science and Technology Studies, History of Medicine, History of Science, Medical Humanities or a related area
  • Evidence of recent, sustained and developing attainments in teaching, including teaching in history of medicine in the modern era, 19th  to 20th  centuries, as appropriate to career stage
  • Evidence of investigative research and publication activities, appropriate to career stage, meeting standards of international excellence in the history of medicine in the modern era, 19th  to 20th  centuries
  • Evidence of a clear commitment to Subject Area or School-level administrative duties appropriate to career stage 
  • Evidence of a clear commitment to collegiality and team working
