About the role

You'll have expertise in one of our existing Bioengineering, Energy Technology, Materials, Mechatronics or national Centre for Advanced Tribology (nCATS) research groups, or the newly formed Southampton Advanced Manufacturing and Design Hub (SAMDH). We're particularly looking for individuals with interests in the following areas, however, we'll consider high quality applications aligned to any of our research group strengths:

  • Advanced manufacturing, production, and design, including additive manufacturing and AI assisted material design.
  • Mechatronics and bio-engineering, including control systems, soft sensors and actuators, robotics, tissue surrogates, foams, stretchable electronics or e-skins etc.
  • Future mobility, automotive dynamics and propulsion, including power systems, future fuels and their storage/applications.
  • Cryogenic and superconductive materials and thermofluid systems, including storage, transport and energy applications.

Successful applicants will demonstrate:

  • Clear plans to build an ambitious independent research programme.
  • Potential to raise external research funding from a range of sources, including UK research councils, the EU, charities and industry.
  • An ability to inspire and support students and colleagues.
