With campuses across the UK, Ireland, and Germany, we offer a diverse range of courses in modern music, performing arts, and filmmaking. Our commitment to excellence in creative arts education sets us apart, providing students with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to succeed in their chosen fields.
About the Role:
BIMM University is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Learning Support Coordinator to lead our disability support team in a fast-paced and forward-thinking creative higher education setting. We are seeking to recruit a solution focused and adaptable individual with key knowledge and experience in the components of effective support within a university setting for disabled students, those with mental health conditions, long-term illnesses, and learning differences (including neurodiversity).
What You'll Do:
- Coordinate Support Services: Manage your caseload and provide oversight of Learning Support Advisors to ensure effective service delivery.
- Line Management: Provide operational line management to Learning Support Advisors, including performance monitoring and facilitating 1:1s.
- Primary Point of Contact: Act as the primary contact for students, parents, academic staff, and external agencies on SEND and SpED matters.
- Partnership Collaboration: Work closely with other support teams, including Student Wellbeing and Counselling, to provide seamless and integrated services to students.
- Accessibility and Inclusivity: Partner with the Building and Technical Team to ensure facilities are accessible and inclusive, removing barriers to learning.
- Liaison with Teaching Staff: Communicate student needs to relevant staff, develop learner profiles, and support academic staff in understanding student requirements.
- Support Provision: Assist students in accessing diagnostic reports, exploring referral options, and ensuring support is in place from enrolment through induction.
- Collaborative Training: Collaborate with academic staff and support training and development across the wider campus team on learning support matters.
- Advocacy: Positively promote equity, diversity, and inclusion through all student wellbeing activities, advocating for holistic student needs.
What You'll Bring:
An awareness of the support mechanisms to ensure effective inclusion and engagement in learning for disabled students and those with additional needs is key within this role. This is including but not limited to:
- DSA, needs assessment and non-medical helpers.
- The application of Reasonable adjustments for specific conditions.
- The compilation of Individual support plans, emergency support plan and personal evacuation plans.
- Diagnostic and screening tools.
- Disability legislation and the application of this in a higher education setting.
You’ll Also Bring:
- Passion for Student Success: Genuine desire to make a positive contribution to the student experience through high-quality learning support services.
- Effective Coordination skills: Ability to coordinate a varied workload, manage conflicting priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proven track record of dealing with challenging situations with initiative, creativity, and a solutions-focused approach.
- Collaborative Approach: Value contributions from a broad range of perspectives and engage effectively with internal and external networks.
- Educational Experience: Good standard of general education and substantial experience delivering high-quality learning support services in an FE or HE context.
- Specialised Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of SEND and SpED, up-to-date knowledge of learning support methodologies and techniques, and familiarity with safeguarding legislation.
We welcome applicants with experience within higher education settings working with students with dyslexia or other specific learning difficulties, medical conditions, neurodiversity, visual and hearing impairments, and physical and mobility issues. Prior experience in coordinating a team to ensure the effective delivery of a disability support service offer is a desired requirement of this role.
