Loughborough University is seeking to appoint a Physics technician in the multi-disciplinary School of Science. Primarily based in the Sir David Davies building, the post holder will provide technical support to staff and students in the Physics Department to support and enhance the department's technical, teaching and research capabilities.


Working under the general guidance of the Technical Tutor/Senior Technician, duties will include: assisting with the fabrication and provision of equipment and materials for research projects, maintaining equipment for standard and more specialist techniques (e.g. high vacuum systems, thin film deposition equipment) and ensuring it is ready for use, assisting in the disposal of waste materials and equipment and implementation of laboratory Health and Safety procedures.


This role would suit someone with a physics or engineering background, and good working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety regulations and practices. Previous experience of cleanroom environments would be advantageous, as would some practical knowledge of chemistry. The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual with good practical and communication skills who works well as part of a team.
