The Nuffield Department of Population Health undertakes world-leading research into long term, chronic health conditions, operating large-scale long-term studies and projects to identify the causes, prevention and treatment of diseases that result in avoidable suffering for millions of people around the world.

We are looking for a Systems Administrator to the Infrastructure Team within the IT Operations team, focusing on our Linux systems. The department’s research projects, which are usually large scale and long-term, generate a great deal of data and as a result we need an extensive network of computers to enable it. The IT Infrastructure team thus plays a critical role within the department underpinning all its work and research goals. The successful appointee will join four highly experienced staff providing support for the critical servers, networking, storage and security areas of the unified NDPH and BDI networks, working alongside our front-line Helpdesk team. The post holder will have the opportunity to be involved in almost all aspects of IT provision for the department.

To be considered for the role you will have extensive experience installing and maintaining a variety of Linux distributions preferably including Debian and CentOS. Ability to use and an appreciation of the importance of automation provided by configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible), along with programming and scripting languages for system administration and strong communication and organisational skills would be essential.

The position is full time (part time considered) fixed term for two years.  The closing date for applications is noon on Friday, 19 January 2024.
