 Job Purpose

The Insights Analyst will support the work of the Careers Employability & Opportunity and Planning, Insight and Analytics teams at the University of Glasgow. The team sits at the heart of University Services and provides data and analysis to support decision-making at the highest level. The Insights Analyst will work in close collaboration with team members to deliver strategic insight and performance reports.

The job holder will be responsible for a wide range of insight generation on (but not limited to) careers, employability and opportunity activity, working across existing data resources to help contextualise and provide insight, growing the use and application of the main Graduate Outcomes survey and Data / Analytics resources, and additionally providing analysis that show different Equality Diversity Inclusivity perspectives. Other areas of focus include Benchmarking, League Tables and Labour Market Scanning.

The post requires the holder to be comfortable extracting and analysing data, explaining patterns, developing analytic models and effectively communicating the stories found within data.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Deliver statistically robust insight and analysis into careers, employability and opportunity  such as learning and teaching metrics, Graduate Outcomes, Careers Registration, student engagement with activities and feedback.

2.  Support the University governance and management structures by providing reports and insight to committees that allows us to understand the experience of our students, graduates, staff, our activities relating to careers, employability and opportunity.

3.  Act as the focal point and subject matter expert for careers, employability and opportunity analysis provided by the Planning, Insight and Analytics team.

4.  Responsible for communicating across the University at all levels the insight and outputs of analysis undertaken.

5.  Engagement with key stakeholders and working collaboratively with colleagues to investigate and highlight areas of best practice and poor performance.

6.  Establish and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the University’s academic provision and outputs to be able to accurately prioritise, inform and present integrated analysis.

7.  Compile and translate data into engaging data stories that identify key messages and trends, ensuring that analysis is appropriate for each audience – ranging from senior management to school staff.

8.  Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Careers, Employability & Opportunity and Planning Insight & Analytics functions to use the most appropriate technology to carry out, present and issue analysis and insight across the university. Contribute to the wider  strategic direction of these functions.

9.  Represent the team at meetings, external groups/conferences and seminars to keep up to date with national developments and gain and share information/knowledge of working practices in the higher education context.

Producing accessible, clear and robust analysis, focussing mainly on careers, employability and opportunity data to meet the needs of senior colleagues and other stakeholders. Work with colleagues to ensure integrity of the data underpinning the analysis, driving insight and intelligence. Support a team strategy for integrated analysis of all aspects of performance across the university, using the most appropriate methods and software.

Essential

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles. Or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).

A2 Knowledge of analytical techniques.

Desirable

B1 Knowledge of higher education guidelines and policies.

B2 Knowledge and experience of University and HE Sector/developments.

B3 Awareness of UK Graduate employability metrics and an understanding of relevant policy and practice relating careers and employability within higher education.

Experience

Essential

E1 Experience of working with data to perform analysis, produce analytic outputs and generate insights.

E2 Experience of working with Power BI – high proficiency in creating and developing new reports and visualisations.

Desirable

F1 Previous experience in a similar analysis role.

F2 Experience of using software / languages such as R, Python and SQL.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term until 31 July 2025 in the first instance.
