Job summary

An opportunity to work in a varied role at the heart of one of the world’s leading universities. The Central Secretariat, which has oversight of corporate governance functions, is seeking to appoint an Information and Compliance Officer. The role will be a shared role with Imperial’s Faculty of Engineering, the post-holder providing data protection management to the faculty two days a week.

You will support the development and implementation of the College’s information governance programme, ensuring that the College meets its legal obligations relating to information governance, data protection and access to information. This will include managing Freedom of Information Act and data protection subject access requests as well as providing data protection guidance and support to the Faculty of Engineering.

Duties and responsibilities

  • As the Information Governance & Compliance Officer, you will work with colleagues across the institution on matters associated with information governance, promoting best practice.
  • As the Data Protection Manager for the Faculty of Engineering, you will be the focal point for all activity within the faculty relating to data protection.
  • You will develop an in-depth understanding of the data used and held across the faculty in order to provide practical advice and guidance to staff on complying with the requirements of the data protection regime and the handling of personal data.
  • You will develop and update Faculty data protection procedures and guidance to ensure they meet legal requirements.
  • You will support the continued development and delivery of a high-quality information governance framework, contribute to the development of a comprehensive corporate records management programme and respond to the full range of information and data subject rights requests collaborating with system and information asset owners across the University.
  • You will support the completion of data protection impact assessments, advise on measures to ensure compliance and good practice is observed, identify and manage risks related to information governance and ensuring that they are escalated.

Essential requirements

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a degree or professional certification in information management, records management, compliance, data protection or similar.
  • Has strong communication skills and a high standard of written English, able to understand and explain to others legislative and other regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of and experience in advising on information governance, records management and data protection in a large or complex service organisation.
  • Is a self-starter, capable of building strong working relationships within the team and at all levels across the College.

Further information

Hybrid working may be considered for this role. Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
