INTERNAL VACANCY 

This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic, and driven person to join the School of Medicine to provide technical management to a programme of work reviewing human tissue for research activities in the University and ensuring the effective and pro-active administration of human tissue work ensuring alignment with university policy and legal obligations. You will lead on ambitious plans for improvement in this area through a review of current human tissue holdings and centralisation of records using a laboratory inventory management system. 


You will have responsibility for a team of technicians supporting with audits and transferring samples to the new central system. This will include stakeholder engagement and communication. You will review risks and coordinate reviews and improvements in an effective and efficient manner. You will be a dynamic and effective individual, with the ability to prioritise competing demands to present informed recommendations to senior management together with the ability to implement recommendations. This will include monitoring and reporting on progress against strategic and operational plans and key performance indicators and drafting procedure and arrangement documents in line with University policy.  

Typical key elements of this role includes: 


  • Provide direction, leadership, management, and support to your team, as well as other staff and students. 
  • Manage technical training requirements during the programme to enhance technical skills and provide resilience in their respective area(s). 
  • Lead areas of the programme and manage the implementation of recommendations, actions, and activities, including direct liaison with senior leaders. 
  • Monitor, and where appropriate, manage allocated budget and resources effectively, ensuring operational finances remain within an allocated budget. 
  • Guidance and direct ordering for staff and students that you support. 
  • Ensure that staff within the programme are kept abreast of activities and progress by dissemination of information, ensuring two-way feedback mechanisms and communication streams are open to ensure transparency. 

This role will be based in the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, but there may be travel to our other sites to support with the programme locally.

This post is offered on a fixed term basis until 31/12/2024. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours) ; however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Job share arrangements may be considered.
