The Bayes Centre is seeking a Hub Manager to provide leadership in the design and delivery of the CHAI-ESPRC AI Hub for causality in healthcare AI with real data, focused on the development of new AI technologies and their application to health.  The post-holder will take responsibility for the overall strategic evolution and coordination of the Hub, working closely with the Hub Director to coordinate the research programme, support translational and commercialisation activities that deliver real-world impact, and generate a sustainable model of growth for CHAI. 

As one of nine EPSRC funded AI Hubs, the University of Edinburgh is leading this national Hub for the development of new AI technologies and their application to health. The Hub is led by Edinburgh with additional leads in London (KCL, Imperial, UCL), Exeter and Manchester.  The Hub will: (i) Build a comprehensive AI platform specifically to address unique research and technical challenges in healthcare; (ii) foster an ecosystem for the co-creation, development, evaluation, and translation of next-gen AI solutions; (iii) facilitate the adoption of Causal AI in healthcare, by promoting innovation and commercialisation; (iv) cultivate new skills and equip thought leaders through workshops and training initiatives; (v) ensure that societal and ethical considerations, including patient and public involvement are prioritised.

This is a highly visible role both nationally and internationally. The post holder will coordinate the delivery of a strategically influential AI Hub supporting an ecosystem of researchers, industry, policy makers, healthcare providers, and patient groups. The post-holder will work closely with a team to coordinate the research programme, support translational and commercialisation activities that deliver real-world impact, and generate a sustainable model of growth for CHAI. 

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. 

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • UG degree in a relevant subject (e.g. health, data science or other) plus a relevant experience; or substantial  vocational experience in progressively more demanding roles involving significant project management and financial administration experience in an academic, industry or third sector environment.
  • Evidence of leadership capability, including experience of building and maintaining a network of senior stakeholders, including excellent influencing, organisational and time management skills. 
  • Experience in managing high value budgets /high risk projects, preferably within an academic environment 
  • High quality line management skills, effective written and oral communication skills; and also a commitment to staff development and mentoring. 
  • A willingness to take responsibility and to propose and deliver solutions to difficult problems
