About the College

Homerton College is one of the most attractive Colleges in Cambridge, with a mixture of old and new buildings set in spacious wooded grounds away from the noisy centre of town yet close to the train station. With over 1,300 students, it is one of the largest Colleges in terms of student numbers, with a thriving and diverse community. Although the College was founded in 1768, we gained our Royal Charter and membership of the University of Cambridge in 2010.  At Homerton we pride ourselves on our distinctive character and values led approach, and especially on the importance of fairness, openness, and excellence.

Homerton College currently employs around 150 full and part-time support employees and around 70 full and part-time academic staff.  The College also employs a bank of casual workers who provide additional support across departments all year round and some on a more seasonal basis.

About the role

We have recently introduced the HR Business Partner model to better support the varied needs of all the departments within the College. We are looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to partner with our academic and related colleagues including the following teams: senior tutor and college teaching officers, wellbeing, library, fundraising, communications, tutorial and admissions.

This role is offered on a part-time or full-time basis. Reporting to the Head of HR, this role will be based on site at our beautiful campus in Cambridge.

This is an incredibly varied role – no two days are the same. The main purpose of this role is to work closely with Senior Managers and Heads of Department to provide advice and support at every stage of the employment life cycle including recruitment, training, change management initiatives and employee relations.  You will take the lead in guiding managers through complex employee relations casework, including disciplinary, grievance and performance related matters; support the Head of HR and senior managers in all aspects of organisational change and take the lead on related consultations. In addition, the role will support and coach managers on absence and performance management and ways to motivate their employees and lead more effectively.

You will also support the HR team in all areas of generalist HR activities as required.  You will be expected to build strong relationships with managers and employees, with the ability to quickly gain an in-depth understanding of their business areas to provide advice and guidance on a wide range of people matters.

About you

The successful candidate will have HR Manager or HR Business Partnering experience, or extensive experience as a Senior HR Advisor ideally in the Higher Education sector, and have a thorough understanding of employment law, general HR policies and extensive experience in leading on complex employee relations issues and change management initiatives.

You will be educated to a degree level or equivalent, and a Chartered Member of the CIPD (MCIPD qualified or equivalent relevant experience).

What do we offer

In addition to a competitive salary, we also offer 25 days annual leave, rising to 30 after 5 years’ continuous employment, plus bank holidays.  We will automatically enrol you into a pension scheme with generous employer contribution of 17.9%.  We offer free parking, subsided access to our onsite gym, a free meal whilst on duty, free eye tests and discounts via our benefits platform.  We also offer an Employee Assistance Programme and we have a wellbeing team offering wellbeing activities for all employees to participate in if they so wish.  See our website for more benefits.
