Health, Injury and Performance Hub Supervisor

Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Kingston upon Hull, ENGLAND
Job Type: PartTime
Deadline: 02 Feb 2024

The School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences (SERS) at the University of Hull, nestled within the Faculty of Health Sciences, is a dynamic academic community thriving under the guidance of a team comprising over 20 academic and technical staff. The dedicated team passionately educates and supports a diverse student body, exceeding 400 students, including postgraduates pursuing MSc by Research and PhD studies. SERS prides itself on its commitment to providing top-tier teaching, learning, research, and knowledge exchange opportunities through its cutting-edge facilities and equipment.

Among the impressive facilities are a bespoke rehabilitation suite, well-equipped physiology laboratories, a high-specification environmental chamber, and a sprawling Health and Human Performance Laboratory. This specialized laboratory features a Strength and Conditioning suite, multiple force plates, a sophisticated 10-camera high-speed motion capture system, musculoskeletal modelling software, EMG, and isokinetic dynamometry, all contributing to an environment conducive to groundbreaking research and hands-on learning experiences.

Notably, the Sport Rehabilitation team initiated the Health, Injury, and Performance Hub in March 2022. Operated by students, this clinic is dedicated to providing affordable assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for neuro-musculoskeletal injuries within the local community. The Hub leverages the expertise and resources available to develop innovative sport rehabilitation packages, creating new revenue streams. It serves as a platform to cultivate a regional client base and enrich the academic journey for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

An exciting opportunity awaits a qualified Sport Rehabilitation specialist to contribute to the clinic's success. The role involves supervising students in a clinical environment, enhancing the clinic's reputation, fostering commercial partnerships, and expanding services into Physiological Assessment and Sports Asthma/Unexplained Exertional Breathlessness. In addition to the 0.3FTE position, the Health, Injury, and Performance Hub is funding a part-time (2 years) Masters of Research. The ideal candidate will be committed to both the Clinical Supervisor and Masters opportunities concurrently, receiving guidance from experienced academic members of SERS. The candidate will contribute to defining the clinic's research direction, conducting impactful research in the field.

The Masters by Research, partially funded by World Rugby, focuses on investigating cervical spine movements in newly trained individuals simulating an athlete with a suspected cervical spine injury. Leveraging an infrared marker-based three-dimensional motion capture system, the candidate will gather data in the biomechanics laboratory at the University of Hull.

This position seeks a Sport Rehabilitation professional capable of exercising significant specialist and independent responsibility. Supported by the Clinic Manager, Academic Team, and Senior Staff, the ideal candidate holds a relevant academic qualification (e.g., degree in Sport Rehabilitation or equivalent) and professional registration with BASRaT or another governing body. With proven experience in a commercial clinic setting, the candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to high-quality customer care and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment while managing multiple tasks. For an informal discussion about this post or the Masters opportunity, please contact Mrs Lois Smith ([email protected] ) or Miss Joanna Snook ([email protected] ).
