About the Role

This is an exciting senior leadership role, heading up the Queen Mary Centre for Public Engagement (QMCPE), the first in the UK to be awarded a platinum watermark by the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE).  

The Head of Public Engagement will champion and build local, regional and national networks to support both the University’s public engagement outcomes and grow the reputation of QMCPE as the best in the UK for public engagement. The role leads on strategic planning, commissioning research and analysis, communications, and liaison with stakeholders, to deliver purposeful, high-quality engagement that evidences the positive impact of the University.   

The role provides high level support to the Vice Principal (Policy and Strategic Partnerships), working in close partnership with the Executive Officer (Policy and Strategic Partnerships) who leads the civic, cultural and public affairs engagement teams.    

About You

You will have highly honed organisational skills and a track record of building strong networks to support public engagement outcomes. You will understand the higher education landscape and how public engagement contributes to reputation as well as to KEF and REF outcomes. You will have an ability to generate income including through grant applications. You will develop  the social policy function of the Centre, maximising the value of the Centre’s research and engagement activities.   

You will be a self-starter, with relevant experience in a Higher Education setting or equivalent. With experience of strategic planning, problem solving and working with a range of diverse communities to co-create and deliver impact. You will be able to develop strong internal and external networks to support this. You will also have demonstrable ability to create, lead and sustain projects and initiatives to deliver the high-quality outcomes in public engagement we expect to see.

The Office of The Principal, where the role is located, is a friendly and busy team at the heart of the University. You will join a team of peers supporting the top leadership of the University (Vice Principals and the University’s Chief Officers).
