Head of Development – Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences (MPLS) – University of Oxford – Oxford – Competitive Salary
The University of Oxford’s Development and Alumni Engagement office (DAE) is seeking a talented development professional to lead Oxford’s fundraising for Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences.
An experienced fundraiser with a track record in securing major gifts and a creative approach to development, your inspiring management and leadership style, and outstanding collaboration and communication skills will guide the MPLS development team to secure significant philanthropic partnerships. These will span the breadth of the mathematical, physical, engineering and life sciences at Oxford, and will support all aspects of these disciplines’ fundamental and applied research – from developing new energy solutions, to understanding climate change, and helping to preserve biodiversity.
Responsibilities of the role:
As the University prepares for its next multibillion pound campaign, this is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and ambitious fundraiser to work closely with Professor Jim Naismith the head of the division in the delivery of transformational capital fundraising projects, including the development of a new campus at Osney Mead in Central Oxford.
- The Head of Development will manage a portfolio of major gifts prospects, and will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of potential donors, typically in the range of £250,000-£2,500,000, delivering £3,000,000 per year.
- The post holder may need to collaborate on approaches with other University development staff, including the Vice-Chancellor and the Chief Development & Alumni Engagement Officer.
- The Head of Development will line manage a successful team of fundraisers and will be responsible for bringing in a team total of £10,000,000.
To be successful in this role:
- A proven track record in major gift fundraising; also a strong natural drive towards getting out into the field and a demonstrable ability to ask successfully for significant gifts.
- The ability to represent the MPLS Division and the University among a range of external constituencies.
- An interest in higher education and in particular an understanding of Oxford University, its mission and its need for external funding in order to set the work of the Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE) in its proper context.
- You will be highly motivated and enthusiastic about the impact of research and teaching in MPLS.
