About the Department

Queen Mary Students’ Union is looking for a Graphic Designer to work at the heart of the organisation to help students love their time at University. As a Students’ Union, we provide ground-breaking student activities, campaigns and opportunities for students. Our mission is “To Listen, To Act and To Improve Students’ Lives and we work towards objectives such as building an authentic student voice, supporting meaningful connections and prioritising students’ mental health and wellbeing.

We also operate bars, shops, cafes, hospitality services and a Sport & Fitness Centre. The profits from these venues fund the game-changing projects from and for our passionate students. Previous campaigns have included Mental Health Awareness, LGBT+ History Month, SpringFest, Decolonise the Curriculum and many more.

About the role

You won’t find another in-house role like this, spanning multiple brands across our charity and company. In this role, you’ll take projects from start to finish. Meeting with staff and student representatives to hear their ideas and then working closely with them to create their campaigns, sell their products, get more gym members and much more. No day will ever be the same, one day you could be designing a cocktail menu, the next co-planning Black History Month.

Our design style is fun, exciting and vibrant, led by Gen-Z and youth trends.

You will be supported by our Design & Communications Manager who is currently refreshing our brand. You will get creative freedom and support the new brand roll-out. We’re a small team, so there’s always the opportunity to make key decisions from brief to roll-out. In addition to artworking, if you think of exciting ways to connect with our students, you can explore it and make it happen.

This post is being offered as a 6 or 12 month position subject to candidates preference.

About You

You’ll need to be creative and full of ideas, with experience of graphic design and using Adobe Creative Suite. You’ll need a clear understanding of design & branding principles, excellent organisation skills and ability to meet simultaneous project briefs and deadlines. Our values are at the heart of all that we do, you’ll need to apply them throughout your work.
