The Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition is seeking a Deputy Director to be part of a Secretariat team supporting the Global Panel, which comprises a small group of influential, independent members who have a commitment to tackling global challenges in food and nutrition security.   The Panel is chaired by Prof Sir John Beddington, former UK Chief Scientific Adviser.  It is hosted by the London International Development Centre (LIDC).

The Deputy Director will be responsible for delivering the Global Panel’s extensive portfolio of activities and line management of three members of staff. The ideal candidate will have experience in running a small but broadly linked office in an academic or policy-based environment.  This post will require excellent communication and organisational skills, as it will involve working with a diverse group of senior stakeholders in a highly international environment.  

The post-holder will have a first degree and a postgraduate degree in nutrition, food, agriculture or international development or equivalent knowledge acquired by experience. A deep understanding of the global landscape for political action on issues in sectors relating to agriculture, nutrition and/ or health and appreciation for the importance and role of evidence in underpinning development interventions in these areas is essential. The post is part-time 21 hours per week, 0.6 FTE and fixed-term until 31 October 2024.

The salary will be on the Professional Services salary scale Grade 8, £62,028 pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
