Job Purpose:
To provide electrophysiology research laboratory assistance.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- General laboratory help (e.g. physiological solution making)
- HEK cell culture and transfection
- Plasmid maxipreps
- Electrophysiological recording in HEK cells or brain tissue
- Processing and handling of animal brain tissue
- Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder
Essential Skills:
- Knowledge of HEK cell culture and transfection and/or processing of animal brain tissue.
- Knowledge of electrophysiological recordings (either patch clamp or field recordings)
- Can plan experiments to test a hypothesis in a specified time frame.
- Has experience in taking initiative to solve problems in experimental execution.
- Can interact positively with team members.
- Can present prior findings and provide critical analysis and future directions on prior research.
Desirable Skills:
- Existing Health and safety sign off to work in B85 and electrophysiology laboratory.
- Existing training on cell culture and/or animal tissue handling.
