  • Growing the journals within your team's portfolio by supporting Editors to launch collections and to strategically develop their journals
  • Serving as the Editor for one BMC Series journal, working strategically with the journals’ external editorial boards to help drive the content development of the journal to ensure its future success
  • Recruiting, training and motivating Editorial Board Members for your own journal within its subject area
  • Handling original research papers and managing all aspects of the editorial process, and providing guidance on research integrity related issues
  • Liaising extensively with editors at other journals across Springer Nature, and with experts in the international scientific community.
  • Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Editorial experience, with demonstrated knowledge of processes and ethics in academic publishing.
  • Experience of working with Editorial Board Members.
  • A PhD (or equivalent) in the biomedical sciences.
  • A passion for science and a thirst to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research across the life sciences and medicine.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • The ability to read and assess the context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different areas of this discipline.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills, and ability to balance short-term deadlines with long-term goals.
  • Be eager to liaise with scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish.

To apply, please submit a CV and a cover letter explaining your interest in the post and a 500-word summary of how you envision driving the growth and future direction of a hypothetical journal portfolio containing 6 journals.
