Deputy Student Administration Manager

We are looking to appoint a dynamic, hardworking, and enthusiastic individual to initially join the Bristol Medical School (BRMS) postgraduate student administration team as Deputy Student Administration Manager (DSAM). This role will have a focus to manage the delivery and training of student administration services and support the quality of the student experience as delegated by the Student Administration Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity to play an active role in the management of student administration and education processes related to undergraduate intercalated and postgraduate taught programmes within the School.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Student Administration Manager (SAM), and other DSAM’s across the medical school, as well as line manage members of the Student Administration Team.
The role is varied, fast paced and would suit a candidate who enjoys collaborative working, has a high standard of interpersonal skills, and is looking to broaden their management experience within education administration or looking to take a first step into a managerial role within a School Team.

You will be working with a team of DSAM’s, administrators and academics, playing a pivotal role in ensuring students receive consistently high-quality administrative support during their studies. As part of the student administration leadership team, you will deputise for the Student Administration Manager when required and will take an active role in developing and enhancing existing processes within the School, as well as supporting team members that you line manage and the wider team.

You will be responsible for continuing the development of training tools for the postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in the Medical School and will work closely with the Student Administration Managers to identify training needs and train and support staff. You will also continue to develop and maintain an online repository of training provisions You will also be building networks to share and implement best practice across the school.

This role requires an individual to be both a manager and a team player, and to have the ability to balance both individual and team workloads. The ability to take initiative and be proactive is key – as is the ability to seek out and make improvements to a process. We are seeking someone able to work in partnership with academic and professional services staff to drive forward change and deliver effective, efficient processes, yet be flexible and adaptable to different situations. A strong commitment to Equality and Diversity is vital.

You have:

  • A degree-level· A degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ability to work within a regulatory framework and to interpret and explain complex regulations and procedures.
  • Evidence of supervisory and/or line management experience.
  • Excellent IT skills, including spreadsheets, advanced word processing and email.
  • Experience of working in a student administration role in the HE sector.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels particularly through training materials.
  • Willing to work flexibly to support occasional events taking place outside of core working hours, for example welcome week and graduation events and clinical assessment days.

Contract type: Fixed term until 30/05/2025 or earlier return of the post holder from maternity leave.

Work pattern: Full Time

Grade: H

Salary: £32982- 37,099 per annum
