Permanent Data Scientist needed!

Full time (36.5 hours per week)

Hybrid working – This is a hybrid role that offers flexible working between home and our Streatham Campus. 

Salary – This is a Grade F position with a starting salary from £41,732 depending on skills and experience.

We are currently looking to recruit a Data scientist with expertise in who specialises in extracting valuable insights from large and complex datasets, using a combination of data analysis, machine learning, and statistical techniques. This is a new job role within an evolving Data function to working on delivering the University’s  Enterprise Data Programme focused on providing a centralised data capability including:

  • Clear data governance, ownership, and stewardship
  • Expert support to data consumers through increased data analysis and literacy skills
  • Rapid access to disparate data
  • New data insights tools and techniques

What you’ll be doing…

  • Conduct comprehensive data analysis, including collection, cleaning, exploration, and transformation.
  • Extract actionable insights to inform decision-making at all levels.
  • Develop predictive models to enhance student engagement, resource allocation, and administrative processes.
  • Utilise advanced statistical methods to uncover correlations and dependencies.
  • Apply diverse machine learning techniques to solve complex problems.
  • Create compelling data visualizations to communicate findings effectively.
  • Establish and enforce data quality standards for reliability.
  • Collaborate with teams to maintain robust data pipelines.
  • Support stakeholders across the university with the articulation of business questions and defining relevant approaches/datasets for data analysis
  • Provide statistical guidance and articulate the benefits of AI and data science.
  • Stay updated with advancements in the field.

  • Proficiency in Python or R and data visualization tools.
  • Strong communication skills for conveying findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and proactive problem-solving attitude in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with big data technologies and data privacy best practices.
  • Willingness to work additional hours as needed.
