The School of Cancer Sciences provides a stimulating work environment for more than 100 scientists, clinicians and associated staff, investigating cancer and its treatment.
We are looking to appoint a Technician to support the Observational Study and the CRUK accelerator programme ‘Early Cancer Research Initiative Network on Monoclonal B-cell Lymphocytosis (ECRIN-M3) awarded to Professor Francesco Forconi at the University of Southampton.
We would like an enthusiastic team-player, contributing to an international team of scientists investigating the mechanisms of disease progression in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and lymphoma. You will join a team of clinicians and scientists with a strong grounding in cancer B-cell immunology, genomics, molecular/cellular biology and bioinformatics. You will regularly interact with international collaborators from the EU, particularly Spain and Italy, who are an active part of the ECRIN-M3 programme. You will have relevant laboratory experience, display a high level of motivation and have the ability to work flexibly as part of a team as well as independently.
You will be required to process primary leukaemia/lymphoma cells from a range of patient samples as well as performing immunophenotyping, calcium flux and IGHV mutational analysis and other genetic analyses to a high standard. You will be required to comply with meticulous record-keeping and database management, while working closely with the ECRIN-M3 data-managers and lab-based scientists, for all processes undertaken, as well as fully comply with legal requirements, GCP and GLP.
Training will be provided where necessary. You will require a good understanding of the current health and safety regulations.
This post will be based within the School of Cancer Sciences, comprising the Centre for Cancer Immunology at the Southampton General Hospital campus, occupying modern, well-equipped, purpose-built laboratories, with support from clinical and laboratory-based colleagues.
