The National R&D Lab Creative Enterprise Manager will play a key role in shaping the future of the creative technology sector in the UK.  This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the CoSTAR story of how early stage researchers and creative enterprises innovate in future technologies, from generative AI to immersive experiences to Realtime networked interaction. 

You will be working with world-leading creative companies – from Pinewood to BT to disguise to thousands of cutting-edge UK SMEs – bringing excellent enterprise and commercialisation insight and expertise to help realise the potential of creative technology content, IP, products, and services emerging from the CoSTAR network.   

The role sits at the centre of CoSTAR’s knowledge exchange and commercialisation team, bridging the gap between high potential innovation, research and creative enterprise. You will work in a creative, inclusive, and dynamic environment based in the StoryFutures Unit at Royal Holloway, University of London.   In partnership with leading industry experts and a wide range of stakeholders, you will lead on the development of a broad range of creative enterprise and commercialisation programmes including tailored growth support, leadership development, expert mentorship, access to infrastructure, support with funding and finance and future market development. 

The Creative Enterprise Manager will be agile, responsive and creative in their approach to devising a dynamic pipeline of support programmes, forging new pathways and opening access to the resources and expertise needed to underpin the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the UK creative sector in an emerging global market.

About the National R&D Lab:  CoSTAR National Lab for R&D in Creative Technology is the largest ever investment in creative industries R&D in UK history: a £51.1m programme led by Royal Holloway, University of London to develop a National R&D Lab for creative technologies to ensure the UK’s screen and performance industries have innovation infrastructure needed to compete globally. What You Will Be Doing: 

  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of the emerging needs of creative technology enterprises to inform creative enterprise  programme design and delivery.
  • Design a range of high quality knowledge exchange and commercialisation programmes, based in the CoSTAR Labs and infrastructure.
  • Support the development of a creative technology entrepreneurial ecosystem within CoSTAR to support creatively conscious enterprises, built on foundations of inclusive, diverse, and sustainable business practices.
  • Initiate, facilitate and support the development of new partnerships for programme design and delivery. 
  • Keep up to date with leading industry and research developments in innovation in new creative technologies, including attending and disseminating activities at relevant conferences/industry events. 

You should apply if you:

  • Have a proven track record of working in business, enterprise and commercialisation support and programme delivery at a local or national level.
  • Understand the UKs R&D, funding and finance ecosystem.
  • Love working with people, enterprises, new ideas and forging pathways to success.
  • Enjoy making connections, brokering introductions, spotting and supporting high potential projects and people.
  • Have a strong network of creative industry, funding, finance and investor  contacts and relationships.
  • Have excellent communication skills. 
  • Have a positive ‘can do’ attitude, work well in a team, proactive and self-confident.  Be used to working under high levels of independence and responsibility.

This is a full time, permanent role available to start from 1st April 2024. This post is based in Egham, Surrey, with the expectation of flexible working and time at the National Lab which is being built in the region, flexible working and national travel as appropriate. The successful applicant will spend significant time liaising with Network Lab partners across the UK.
