To work within the Campus Division, Compliance Team ensuring that University gas appliances and systems, water hygiene, local exhaust ventilation (fume cupboards) and medical gasses (Lab Gas) are legally compliant to enable research, teaching and learning to take place in a well-cared for, safe and pleasant environment for students, staff, and visitors. The role holder has responsibility for all mechanical gas, air and water hygiene systems across the University including, but not limited to, Gas heating and water boiler systems, Water storage and Mains fed, hot and cold-water systems, Fume cupboard air extract systems and Laboratory gas supply services. The role must ensure that all these systems are fully compliant as failure to meet compliance could result in the close a building or loss of teaching facility.
- Monitor and maintain records/reports to meet both internal and external (e.g., legislative, or national) requirements, including quality assurance, codes of practice, certification, and safety system work schedules (e.g., QA, codes of practice).
- Ensure all certification is completed correctly and paper certificates are scanned and stored appropriately.
- Maintain list of replacement dates for all gas boiler systems across university.
- Produce standard and non-standard reports from system to supply data and information to other schools/departments/work units or external agencies (e.g., funding councils, auditors, gas safe and insurance companies).
- Review data extracts from database on monthly basis to identify missed, noncompleted or required works that require further investigation.
- Support the preparation of financial and/or management information through the identification of gaps or shortfalls and search for solutions to fill these for the wider Campus division.
- Audit monitor and report on performance of team and or contractors.
- Respond to problems through the selection of several different solutions.
- Anticipate potential problems and use technical knowledge and experience to take pre-emptive action.
- Respond independently to queries and use judgment and initiative to deal with unforeseen problems and circumstances with limited guidance from more senior Management.
- Decide on the best approach, taking into consideration wider implications with regard to complex cases, written documentation and specialist queries with line management support when needed.
An extensive knowledge of gas installations and gas appliances at both domestic and commercial level to fulfil Approved responsible person role. Have a deep understanding of how these systems work and interface to enable fault diagnosis leading to unique remedial solutions. An extensive knowledge of water hygiene in hot and cold-water systems. Knowledge of LEV systems (air extract). Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and approved codes of practice for the above disciplines. Extensive managerial or supervisory specific experience in related disciplines to this role. Experience of contract/project management. Identify organise and deliver training to maintenance staff and contractors where appropriate. Proficient in the use and development of CAFM systems and Word/Excel/similar software.
