About the Role: As an experienced qualified solicitor, you will play a pivotal role in our Legal Services Office, focusing on a broad range of General Commercial issues impacting higher education. Working under the general supervision of the Head of General Commercial and Charities Legal Team, you will advise on allocated cases and provide support to team members on larger matters.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Drafting and negotiating contracts within the remit of the General Commercial legal team.
  • Advising on a broad range of commercial matters to support the University's academic and income generation activities.
  • Monitoring trends and changes in relevant law, disseminating key developments to relevant staff.
  • Organising and delivering training in areas of expertise, providing support and briefings as required.
  • Proposing and formulating precedent agreements, advising on early stage disputes, and undertaking other work appropriate to the role.

Requirements: 

Essential:

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister, admitted to practice in England and Wales with significant commercial caseload experience.
  • Articulate communicator in both writing and orally, able to convey legal principles and concepts clearly.
  • Flexible, imaginative, and able to identify creative and practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Pragmatic with a solution-focused approach.
  • Excellent communicator inspiring confidence when providing advice, understanding complex scenarios.
  • Able to manage a varied and time-pressured workload independently while being an integral part of the team.
  • Maintenance and creation of precedent agreements for relevant client groups.
  • Providing training support and briefings to internal client groups.
  • Desirable:

  • Experience in an in-house environment.
  • Knowledge of the higher education field.
