Jesus College wishes to appoint a College Lecturer in Law. The post is for a fixed term of 5 years, starting on 1st September 2024, and carries with it a Fellowship at the College (the Yates Glazebrook Fellowship in Law). The successful candidate is expected to provide small-group teaching (supervision) in at least one (and preferably two) of the following papers: Tort Law, Contract Law, and Equity. If the successful candidate teaches only one of those papers, they must be able to offer supervisions in another paper from the Law Tripos, other than Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Evidence, Land Law, and Family Law.
The Lectureship is intended to provide a valuable development opportunity for a fixed term to an individual at the beginning of their academic career to allow them to build teaching skills, a publication record and other academic activity with a view to obtaining a university appointment in the University of Cambridge or elsewhere after holding the Lectureship. In addition to individuals who have already started their academic career, or are finishing their graduate studies in Law, the College is equally interested in individuals with some teaching experience considering a switch from legal practice to academia.
The successful applicant will be expected to undertake up to ten hours a week of small-group teaching (supervision) in Law, to direct studies in Parts of the Law Tripos and/or the LLM/MCL, to play an active part in the organisation and support of the subject within the College, including helping with undergraduate admissions, to engage in research and publication of international quality, and to undertake other College offices or duties appropriate to an early-career appointment if asked to do so by Council.
Further particulars about the post and the application procedure are available to download.
Applicants should ask their referees to write on their behalf by midday on the closing date 30th April 2024. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held on 21st May 2024 in person. There will be a formal interview, and in addition shortlisted candidates will be asked to give a teaching presentation and a research presentation to the panel.
Informal enquiries about this post may be directed to Prof Findlay Stark, Fellow in Law, Jesus College ([email protected] ).
