About Us

The Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) is located to the west of the city and was built in the early 2000s. It includes the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP), the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (DPMMS), the Betty and Gordon Moore Library (BGML) building, and the Isaac Newton Institute (INI).

About the Role

The Facilities Manager has a key role within the CMS, and you will be responsible for the provision of a range of services across the CMS including reception, custodial, and maintenance services. You will take a leadership role in Health and Safety, the University Green Impact agenda as well as energy management for the site. You will be the main liaison with the central Estates Management Division and lead a team of 11, you will also be responsible for overseeing a significant budget for the provision of facilities services.

About You

You will have a responsibility to ensure that the 9 buildings that comprise the Centre for Mathematical Sciences and associated services are fit for purpose and provide the correct level of support for the Faculty's teaching and research activity. You will also have outstanding interpersonal skills and a willingness to engage with site users to develop and continually improve services. You will be educated to a degree level or equivalent or have significant recent experience and substantial line management experience as well as a strong customer service ethos.

You will have:

  • proven experience in contract negotiation, managing projects, financial management, and supervising building/maintenance contractors.

  • excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deliver multiple projects to agreed timescales and with a high degree of initiative.

  • sound knowledge of building services and health and safety legislation and practice.

  • qualifications in facilities management, food safety & hygiene, and health & safety are all desirable. A willingness to be on call out of hours is required to fulfil this role successfully.
