University of Bristol Source Catering have an amazing opportunity for a chef to join their team. You will be part of a team responsible for preparing and serving a variety of meals to students, staff and visitors across the campus.

As a chef at University of Bristol, you will have an opportunity to serve high-quality food which has been responsibility sourced and has low an impact on the world as possible. This is a 35 hour per week contract with all overtime paid and you will benefit from the university closure days which include over Christmas, New Year and Easter.

The successful candidate will prepare varied nutritious meals to a high standard specified by the Head chef and Manager.

Assisting the Head Chef in planning the menus for all meals, functions and special occasions.

Meeting the required standards of hygiene and food safety by monitoring cleaning schedules and food and equipment temperatures

Assisting the head chef in the continual training of staff and induction and training of temporary staff.

Assist in the preparation of orders for the purchase of provisions and monitoring deliveries ensuring deliveries are accurate and stores correctly.

  • You will be required to hold a recognised cookery qualification equivalent to at least NVQ Level 2
  • You will ideally have gained previous experience in a reasonably wide variety of catering establishments, including hotel and/or restaurant work and preferably not restricted to the public sector; to understand the requirements of the differing customer types and to bring diverse experience to the University.
  • A high level of culinary skill is essential to meet the wide variety of requirements, including student meals, conferences, functions and wedding receptions, day meetings and special meals. High standards of preparation and presentation are expected throughout.
  • An understanding of the principles of food hygiene and the consequences of poor working practices is essential.
  • Willing to learn and I have a genuine passion for food.
  • We know that kitchens can be a very busy environment to work it, and so it is essential that you have the ability to always work clean and tidy.
