Centre Manager - QET Labs

We have a unique opportunity to join our team in the Quantum Engineering Technology Labs (QET Labs) Research Centre within the Bristol Quantum Information Institute , as the Centre Manager.

This crucial role involves working closely with academics and researchers, and leading a well-established team of professional support staff to deliver a programme of activities that supports the development of world-changing quantum technologies, and trains the academic and industry leaders of the future. The role is highly-varied, forms a vital part of the QET Labs operations, is crucial to effective operational management and direction, and plays a central role in supporting the strategy for the Centre.

QET Labs is a world-leading Research Centre of over 100 academics, researchers, staff and students that encompasses quantum-related activities spanning research, training and enterprise. Further information can be found on our QET Labs website .

  • You will play a key role in strategic planning and decision-making within the Centre, working closely with the Centre Co-Directors;
  • You will work with academics, researchers and students, to facilitate and support grant funding and delivery of research, and support operational needs;
  • You will lead on the operational direction and activities for QET Labs, such as planning, reporting, administration, managing stakeholders, finance, HR, events, communications;
  • You will manage a team of professional services staff who support a variety of tasks and activities for the Centre.

QET Labs exists within a fast-changing environment, including significant potential opportunities arising from the UK’s national strategy to advance quantum technology supported by £2.5Bn of government investment over the next 10 years. Effective management of the Centre will require maintaining oversight of a large number of activities across the Centre, working with a variety of stakeholders involved and taking daily decisions. This is an exciting and stretching role which requires excellent communication skills, a flexible and adaptable approach, resilience, creativity and the ability to think quickly whilst making effective decisions.

  • you have the passion and drive to work closely with and support scientists and engineers who are working on cutting edge research.
  • you have extensive experience in research management and/or funding and are passionate about supporting research. A PhD is desirable for this role.
  • you are an engaging, motivating and inspiring leader.
  • you are highly motivated, resilient, adaptable and independent; able to work collaboratively and constructively in a team that spans across departments with a variety of different people.
  • you have strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • you have excellent organisation, planning, and time management skills and able to prioritise your workload effectively.
