Job Purpose 

As a Business Analyst in the Automation Service, your role involves promoting and using technology to enable process improvement and good service design. You'll articulate the value of automation, showcase implementations, and highlight benefits to stakeholders. Your responsibilities include leading colleagues across automation discovery, understanding user requirements, identifying automation opportunities, and capturing business processes for solution design. Collaborating with the Automation Service Team and central functions, you'll progress opportunities from development to delivery. Post-implementation, you'll ensure solutions meet team needs, seamlessly integrate into operations, and enable stakeholders to realise intended benefits from automation solutions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Engage with business stakeholders to understand processes, challenges, and needs.

• Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with business teams, ensuring open communication and trust.

• Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders for service enablement including; Information Services, Finance, People & Organisational Development, and Data Protection & Freedom of Information Office.

Automation Discovery and Documentation:

• Lead automation discovery workshops, gathering detailed business requirements and as-is understanding across current processes.

• Document discovery findings logically and clearly, adhering to agreed standards/templates.

• Create and contribute to the automation business cases, across multiple automation opportunities.

Pipeline Management and Collaboration:

• Assist the Pipeline & Adoption Lead in managing opportunities, maintaining the automation pipeline, and configuring the Automation Hub.

• Collaborate with central functions across prioritisation and opportunity selection.

• Maintain communications with key partners to highlight pipeline focus and roadmap.

Business Engagement and Post-Implementation:

• Facilitate business engagement during automation delivery, ensuring alignment with business needs.

• Post-implementation, analyse the effectiveness of automation solutions, ensure agreed benefits are delivered, and consider enhancements for maximum outcomes.

Communication and Promotion:

• Provide continuous communication to stakeholders and Automation Service Leadership on the progress, outcomes, and benefits of automation initiatives across the full automation lifecycle.

• Promote automation technologies through written documentation or verbal presentations to internal and external audiences.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

Knowledge and Qualifications 

Essential: 

A1 Demonstrated ability to showcase the competencies essential for this role, acquired through relevant experience in similar roles or varied positions. Or, Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9 (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), with experience in personal development within a similar or related role(s).

A2 Knowledge and understanding of business analysis tools and techniques.

Desirable: 

B1 Completion of Automation Business Analyst modules from UiPath Academy.

B2 Familiarity with automation tools and technologies.

Skills 

Essential: 

C1 Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

C2 Strong interpersonal skills, enabling the establishment of effective working relationships.

C3 Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality.

C4 Excellent organisational skills, demonstrating the ability to plan, progress, and prioritise work activities effectively.

C5 Strong analytical skills, facilitating the sharing of insights for informed decision-making.

Desirable: 

D1 Proficiency in capturing and managing automation opportunities, particularly in UiPath Automation Hub or similar platforms.

D2 Competence in data visualization and report building, specifically in PowerBI or similar tools.

D3 Able to explain technical concepts and analyses clearly and translate business objectives into actionable analyses.

D4 Additional technical skills are a plus.

Experience 

Essential: 

E1 Practical experience in business or change analysis, or a similar role, utilizing business analysis methods to document processes/user journeys and define business or user-centric requirements.

E2 Track record of leading stakeholders in interactive workshops and using effective facilitation to achieve desired outcomes.

E3 Experience in identifying and articulating the benefits/value derived from automation or similar business improvement activities.

E4 Proven experience in developing business cases, reports, presentations, and data visualisations to communicate insights from analysis activities or outcomes/deliverables.

E5 Change management experience, providing support to colleagues throughout the change journey.

Desirable: 

F1 Experience in translating business process information and requirements (as-is) to conceptualise the information as an automated solution (to-be).

F2 Exposure to an Automation Centre of Excellence environment.

F3 Familiarity with a Higher Education environment.

Terms and Conditions 

Salary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum.

This post is full time (35 hours p/w) and open ended. Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.
