About the Role
The post will be part of the Biology Department within the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the effective day-to-day management of core laboratories and facilities in the Department, which include a state-of-the art genomic and an environmental analytical (isotope and gas chromatography) facility. Furthermore, we have terrestrial and marine invertebrate facilities to support our research. The post holder will lead a team of 4 technicians, each with advanced laboratory expertise.

About You
You hold a degree or equivalent qualification/experience in a relevant field and have substantial understanding and experience of providing technical support in a research environment. You have a solid understanding of basic concepts in general biology and molecular biology with experience and knowledge of high throughput sequencing methods. Line management experience and ability to lead and motivate a team, and knowledge and experience of Health & Safety regulations and procedures in biological laboratories are essential criteria for this post.

About the School
The School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences is divided into three departments – Biochemistry, Biology and Psychology and is home to over 100 academic staff, 45 postdoctoral researchers, 28 administrative staff and around 30 technicians. We provide a supportive and friendly environment with a multi-disciplinary approach to teaching and research. We have strong links with industry, offering students a stimulating and supportive learning experience.
