The Information Services Division (ISD) is the primary provider of IT services to UCL.  We support and enhance learning, teaching, research and administrative processes by providing information- and technology-related services to over 50,000 staff and students of UCL and associated institutions.

ISD has over 500 staff and is structured into eight departments: Director’s Office; Architecture and Design; IT Change and Project Delivery Services; IT for IOE and Humanities; IT for SLMS, Professional Services and the Bartlett; IT Service Delivery; Learning Technology and Media Services; Research IT Services; and Service Strategy and Improvement.

 Within ISD, IT Service Delivery provides infrastructure and other technology services, the common IT service desk and application development/support services including database administration.

 This post is in Technical Operations, which works across UCL to deliver and support cost effective and consistent Network, desktop and AV solutions.

AV Technical Specialist is the final escalation point for the Service Desk and 2nd line support teams. The post holder coordinates and delivers prompt, in-depth, customer focused 3rd line support to staff, students and honorary contract holders.


The post holder will lead and co-ordinate the AV, lecture capture, digital signage, occupancy sensors and any other lecture room technologies/services


The post holder will provide expertise in learning and teaching space technologies, acting as a technical specialists in assigned areas


The post holder will provide mentoring, training and support to 2nd line support team members

The candidate should posses the following technical skills:

In-depth experience of Audio Visual technologies in learning and teaching spaces
Experience of Lecture capture equipment and software such as Echo 360
Experience of Video conferencing
Experience of managing small projects and minor works
Experience of leading and managing virtual teams
Experience of digital signage technologies
Experience and qualification in Crestron Programming
Experience of staff training and mentoring
Experience of using a fault logging system
Experience of liaising with 3rd party hardware and software providers
Experience of working in a university environment
Experience of H&S regulations including CDM, working at heights etc

The candidate should also be able to demonstrate

Excellent problem solving skills including an ability to diagnose complex hardware and software faults
Excellent communication skills
Be able to work under pressure
Professional and supportive towards staff, colleagues, students and others
Basic understanding of HR and financial processes
Basic understanding of Project Management and Agile methodologies
Understanding of ITIL
Be able to use own initiative for setting and meeting own targets
